219. Stop Holding It All Together, Start Letting Your Brain Rest: Journal Prompts for Mental Load Relief

You’re not doing anything wrong. But you are carrying far more than your brain was meant to hold. The lists. The reminders. The mental tabs you keep open so nothing falls apart.

If you’re the person who remembers everything, anticipates everything, and keeps everything moving, this one is for you.

This episode builds on Part One of the Beyond Awareness series. If you listened on Tuesday, you identified the thought loop behind your mental load. Today, we slow it down and give your brain space to let go.

Journal Prompts To Release the Mental Load

  1. List everything that is currently taking up space in your brain right now. Work and home tasks.Things you’re afraid you’ll forget. Decisions you haven’t made yet. Don’t organize it. Don’t clean it up. Just write what’s actually there.
  2. From that list, choose the thing that feels most urgent or most stressful. Ask yourself what you believe will happen if you stop thinking about this. If you let it go. If you trust someone else to handle it. If you forget it completely. What is the worst case scenario your brain is trying to prevent?
  3. If you weren’t the person who remembered everything and held it all together, who would you be? What would that mean about you? Would you still be valuable? Still worthy of your career, your family, and the life you’re building?
  4. What would you need to believe about yourself, or trust about your life, to let your brain rest? What permission do you need to give yourself?

If something came up while you were writing, that’s your signal you’ve gone beyond awareness. You didn’t find another solution. You uncovered the belief driving the pattern.

Do you ever think, if I don't do it, no one else will? This is part one of the Beyond Awareness series. And on Tuesday, we broke down that exact thought and all of that mental chatter and that mental load and why you're holding on to everything in your head, whether it be your work deadlines, your goals, your kids, your schedules, your

partner's appointments, what's for dinner, which rooms need cleaning, all of it. And why time blocking and hiring more help and any other solution hasn't actually lightened that mental load at all. Or if it has, it hasn't stuck. Like you still find yourself back with that heavy mental load, thinking of all of the things. And so today,

We are doing strategic journaling so that you can release some of that weight and find relief based on the beliefs that you uncovered on Tuesday's episode. So go back and listen to Tuesday's episode if you haven't yet. And even if you haven't, you don't need to listen find that root belief. But if you have, it's going to be even more powerful. Quick note before we start, all of the prompts that you're about to hear are in the show notes.

So if you are driving or can't write right now, then save this episode so you can come back to it later. Okay, let's dive in.

Prompt number one. List everything that is currently taking up space in your brain right now. Work tasks, home tasks, things that you're worried about, things that you're worried you'll forget, decisions that you haven't made yet. Don't organize them or format it perfectly, just brain dump.

what is actually in your brain right now.

Prompt number two, pick that thing on your list that feels most urgent or most stressful. And now ask yourself, what do I believe will happen if I stop thinking about this? If I let it go, if I trust someone else to handle it, or if I forget it completely, what is the worst case scenario that my brain is trying to prevent?

Prompt number three, if you weren't the person who remembered everything and held it all together, who would you be? What would that mean about you? Would you still be valuable? Would you still be worthy of your career, your family, your life, what you're creating? whatever comes up, even if it feels uncomfortable or unimportant.

prompt for. What would you need to believe about yourself or to trust about your life to actually let your brain rest? What permission do you need to give yourself? And if it helps, finish this sentence. I'm allowed to blank without it meaning blank.

amazing job. If these prompts brought something up for you, which I hope they did, something that you've been trying to solve with better systems or more discipline, that is your signal that you have gone beyond awareness and that now you know what is happening. You haven't just found another solution. You have

excavated, you've dug deeper into the belief that is actually driving it. And so if you feel like you need to go further into that belief, download the Calm Mind Blueprint at the link in the show notes. It's free. And start with prompt number one today. It'll take you just three minutes. And it's the one thing, this blueprint is the one thing that will actually walk you through

Clearing mental clutter so that you can actually be present in your family and in your career instead of just perpetually planning in your head and also Physically like tangibly in here in your real world

And come back next Tuesday for part two. We are talking about delegation and why you can't trust anyone else to do it right or do it the way that you would and why you prefer your way of doing things even if it's exhausting you and burning you out. It is going to be really great. going into that behavior and the thought loops behind it so that you can get to the belief and actually make some progress towards feeling better. So.

Tune in to that one. You're not going to want to miss it. Thank you for journaling with me today, and I will see you on Tuesday.

About the Podcast

Beyond Awareness: Closing the Gap Between Knowing and Doing
Closing the Gap Between Knowing and Doing
Beyond Awareness (formerly Journal Entries) is for successful women in leadership and business who know exactly what they need to do but can't make themselves do it.

You know you need to prioritize yourself, delegate more, set boundaries, stop bringing work home. You've tried therapy, coaching, retreats. You know the solution - but you either can't follow through, or when you DO, it doesn't stick.

Host Samantha Hawley helps business owners and executives earning $100k+ excavate the root beliefs underneath the execution gap. Why do you keep not doing the thing? Why doesn't it feel better when you do? Using strategic journaling and emotional excavation, we go beyond awareness into why you're actually stuck in the pattern.

This isn't about more tactics or tips. This is about understanding why awareness isn't enough and what actually needs to shift for you to change.

You'll hear about: decision fatigue, why you can't prioritize yourself, nervous system regulation, being present with your kids, root cause of overwhelm, why boundaries don't stick, self-sabotage patterns, and how your internal state impacts everything.

Perfect for: Female CFOs, VPs, directors, executives, business owners, and women in leadership who are tired of knowing what's wrong but not being able to change it.
