275. You Already Know What to Do. So Why Aren’t You Doing It? Feat. Jenna D'Annunzio
You can read all the books. Listen to all the podcasts. Know exactly what you should be doing and still find yourself doing the same thing.
That was one of my favorite parts of this conversation with Jenna D’Annunzio. We talked about what happens when awareness isn't enough, and how the beliefs underneath our behavior can quietly keep us from taking the next step.
We also talked about the pressure so many women carry to keep doing, achieving and checking things off the list, and what changes when we make room for being too. Because the goal isn't to stop doing. It's to stop believing that doing more is the only way forward.
As you listen, notice where you might be saying “I know” while continuing to do the same thing.
Where am I saying I know what to do, but I'm not doing it?
What would change if taking care of myself was actually part of the plan instead of something I do when everything else is finished?
Where am I so focused on doing that I've forgotten how to be?

Hello, welcome back to Beyond Awareness. Today I have an incredible guest with me. I've got Jenna Denunzio and she is incredible. I know her in real life, you guys. Normally my guests are just like internet guests, but this is an incredible woman and she is really special because we do kind of similar work. She guides entrepreneurs with stepping out of survival mode and feeling grounded and aligned.
more joyful in life and with feeling more successful and actually becoming more successful and where they are leading a life where they feel fulfilled and they're building without losing themselves in the process. And I think that a lot of women especially listen to this podcast and that's like the biggest thing is they love their career. They love what they're building, but they feel like it comes at the expense of family time or expense of hobbies or that.
they're losing some part of their life, maybe even just time on their calendar. So that's what we're getting into today. Welcome to the show, Jenna.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Hello, hello, thank you so much for having me.
Samantha Hawley (:Of course, we're going to talk more about the inner work and like what that is and also how that applies to our business strategy in a little bit. But I know that you are obviously an entrepreneur, but you're also a certified holistic business and mindset coach. You're an author, a speaker. I've seen you post about like some other fun projects that you're doing and you're a second generation entrepreneur. So first I wanted to ask you, have you always had this like
entrepreneurial mindset? Like, were you raised doing this inner work because your parents were? Or how did you get started with this work?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:So that's an excellent question. I was, have I, was I raised doing the inner work? No.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah
Jenna D'Annunzio (:But have I always wanted to do this? I would say yes. So even from as far back as I can honestly remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. Like I was that little girl that would line her stuffed animals up or her Barbies up and get a book.
and go through and teach them or make little lesson plans and things like that. So as it relates to wanting to create value for others in a more service-based value, then absolutely. That is something that I have always, always wanted
to do. However, it really shifted, I would say probably in my early 20s.
maybe mid 20s to a more counseling type of approach away from like the classroom setting into more of a counseling setting. And then ultimately, to more of a ontological being like the study of of being right in who how we're showing up from a psychological perspective, like how our beliefs drive our behaviors and our behaviors drive our results.
And so recognizing those things, it was a really cool evolution that was definitely supported by my father, who is the founder of our coaching company, Soul Purpose Institute. So with his support, I was able to really take that leap into my own entrepreneurial journey. But as it relates to like always doing the internal work, I'm...
still learning how to do it every day. I'm walking hand in hand with my clients and learning how to manage that, the monkey mind as I say.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm. I was reading a book and of course I'm blanking on the name. It's the woman who owns Female Entrepreneur Association, Carrie Green. I don't know if you've heard of her, but she talks
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Okay? Okay, but I'll write her down.
Samantha Hawley (:about how she had a father who taught her how to meditate like when
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Mm.
Samantha Hawley (:she was young and how to
handle situations through, I don't know, just this enlightened state when she was seven years old. And I'm like, my gosh, that's kind of how I pictured you before asking you that question. That sounds so cool to have that perspective and that experience. And it sounds like that was not you going through your life in that way.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:It honestly it really wasn't but you know what just dropped in for me as you were saying that was a sense of like overwhelming love because I am that person for my kids. Like I my my girls and I we meditate regularly and I've taught them how to do emotional freedom technique tapping and use those types of tools in order to help.
regulate their nervous system, you know, identify when they're feeling fear, doubt, worry, and then giving them and teaching them the tools to overcome them. But in full transparency, I learned so much of what not to do. Vulnerable moment
from my mom, which put me in a position to then live with my father, who as he started his own journey,
I kind of walked with him there. So as he was learning these things, I was just watching him, but he wasn't technically in a space to be able to teach me while he was learning them, if that makes sense. So for what I do now is once I have these tools, I'm teaching my kiddos and I'm bringing that into the space of entrepreneurship.
because I realize and I recognize now, entrepreneurs, there's a series of limiting beliefs that not just entrepreneurs have that we all have, right? And those core beliefs, whether it's I'm not good enough, the things I want, cannot have, or I don't belong. all of us have one of those three
limiting beliefs and they show up not just in business but in life as well. And so on the entrepreneur's journey, energizing those limiting beliefs are the barriers and the setbacks that we all see from seeing the success that we want, right? From
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:hitting that next level.
from being what we have deemed as successful in our business.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm. I love that you named those beliefs as well. Are those the three main beliefs that you see in your clients?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:in everyone, but yes. Yeah, I mean,
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah. Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:truly, that's the human condition, right? Is that we're all at one point or time, we feel like we're not good enough.
or we feel like we don't belong, right? Some of those beliefs, they're either experiential or they were instilled in us by caregivers or our caretakers. So it could be as simple as, know, a kid saying, I'm a playground at recess. You can't play with us, right? And then you feel like you don't belong.
or the things I want I can't have, right? So a lot of entrepreneurs, well, I really, really want to start a coaching program. I really, really want to climb the ladder within leadership.
But I can't because of x, y, and z. So each of us have, at one point or another, those limiting beliefs. And it's just the ability to recognize, wow, OK, I'm not feeling good enough. Is that true, Is that really true? Or is that something that I'm subconsciously energizing?
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah,
that was my next question was going to be how do you start to work through that and is it the same for each one of those beliefs?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yes. First, it's identifying it, right? Just naming it, like naming what's going on for you. So many of us stay in like this just distracted state, right? For myself, I know that I will avoid either doing what I know works because of, you know, I know how many times, right? Like we all, I know. I know.
It's like, okay, cool. But to say that you know and to not do might mean that you don't actually know. And as moms
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:and as business owners, my goodness, we have a gazillion things going on all the time. At any given moment, there's something always happening. And so it's so easy for us to kind of stay in that reactionary space.
The proactive space is to say, okay, what's actually going on for me? Like, let me identify what's going on. Once I can identify the pattern that I'm seeing. So this pattern within me is I just, don't feel like I'm good enough. I don't feel like I belong. I don't have a seat at the table. So I don't even bother putting myself in the rooms.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:then
we can kind of unpack and like peel back those layers. Let's journal about this, right? You're my journal girl. Like, let's journal about this and really unpack where that stemmed from and or how is that impacting what I want moving forward? Like what behaviors are driving that? And then how does that impact ultimately what I want?
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm. I love that because I think, I mean, this podcast is beyond awareness. And so I think a lot of people are aware and they might slow down enough to realize that they are feeling not enough or they are, they already know maybe they did the work at one point or another and they already know that they don't feel worthy or whatever. But then you're right, they're so distracted that they don't slow down long enough to realize or to
question, well, why is that or what is the impact of it? And the whole thing is even if you know what to do, like you said, you're not doing it. And so it's like, what are those beliefs or what's keeping you from doing that? Because it doesn't feel good, right? You're not taking that action yet. You're not in the room yet with those people. And what do you feel like?
is what do you see, especially in yourself or your clients,
is that costing them? they're not, that belief isn't letting them in the room. That belief isn't letting them take that next step.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah, it's costing them peace. It's costing them calm. It's costing them money. It's costing them success. It's costing them relationships. I mean, if I look at the five human capital resources, right, our time, our energy, our relationships, our currency, our production,
our knowledge, like really, it costs us all of those things. In one shape or another, whether it's short term or long term. Some of those in the short term, but some in the long term. Right? Like our energy, we're just constantly being sucked dry because we're living in a state of reactionary distraction. Right? But then when we think about our relationships,
Some of the greatest people that are gonna be in my life, I haven't even met yet. And I'm like, so excited about that. Right? But
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:that's me thinking I belong. That's me not succumbing to the, don't belong. It's me making
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:that choice to say, wait a second, some of my best friends in this second half of my life.
I haven't even met yet. So I'm gonna make sure that I'm in every dang room that feels aligned with who I am now and who I wanna become because I can't wait to meet that person.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:You know what I mean?
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah. Yeah, and I'm picturing the woman who is, you know, aware and feeling, you know, stuck and having this belief. And she's hearing you, like, she wants that peace and better relationships and calm
Jenna D'Annunzio (:you
Samantha Hawley (:and joy. And it's so crazy to me because while that's what she says that she wants, she feels to...
busy. That's like what's coming up for me right now. She feels so busy. instead she's just doing her to do list. She's like, I need to like do this, this, this and this and then I will have time to sit and journal or and then I will have time to do one of these other tools. But that's
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Mm-hmm.
Samantha Hawley (:the thing that's literally getting in the way of feeling that way. And so I'm curious
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:journaling, as you already mentioned, and everybody knows is the way that I like to do that.
What are the tools that you like to use or that you use with your clients to actually work through these limiting beliefs?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:First, so as an entrepreneur, and this is a really great question, one of the key activities that I have them implement is what I call creating tomorrow's plan today. So at the end of every day, work day, at the
end of every work day, I have them take 15 to 30 minutes, 30 minutes max.
and open up their calendar and say, okay, what am I doing tomorrow? What does tomorrow look like? For the employee, it'll likely look similar. To the entrepreneur, it might look completely different. But what does that look like for you? And then have them schedule time for themselves to plug into what I call their higher power. Plug into the best version of themselves.
How do they do that? They do a mini meditation. They move their body. Moving their body doesn't necessarily look like a workout. I have three kids. I'm a business owner. I'm married. I have a puppy. And I say all this because I get it and it's almost impossible for me to be able to do a workout every single morning. Everybody has their own stuff going on.
Moving your body could look simply look like one or two minutes of stretching when you get up. Doesn't have to have be a complete yoga class or Pilates, but do a series of stretches to get the blood flowing to all the limbs, right?
Samantha Hawley (:Hehehe.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:A mini meditation saying what I call is an intention statement. So I have all of my clients create I have a template, create what I call an intention
statement and that statement is just that it is an intentional thing that they say multiple times a day that plugs them in to who they want to be, how they want to think and what they want to accomplish. So going back to your original question is creating tomorrow's plan today because you never know. That
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:in and of itself is telling your time where to go instead of always wondering where it went.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:We're
all busy, we all have so much going on. But if we're not intentionally choosing to be the best version of us, it's not gonna happen. We just stay camped out in that level of distraction and reactionary way of being. So creating that tomorrow's plan allows me like, so.
This kid's got chorus in the morning. This kid's got orchestra in the morning. This one doesn't have to be to school till a normal time. So I'll get
Samantha Hawley (:haha
Jenna D'Annunzio (:up, I'll do my stretches, I'll say my intention statement. I'll run this one here, then I'll run this one here. then,
you see what I'm saying? Like I'm
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:telling my time where to go.
It's not just a to-do list.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
I like that reframe too of telling your time where to go instead of the to-do list. Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:instead of wondering where it went, right? And
here's what I ask all my people, why isn't taking care of you on the list? Why isn't it first on the list?
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah, I was going to say, love that you pointed out that on that list is tapping into your higher self. It's doing the stretches. It's the meditation. Because I think a lot of people want to put themselves on their list and they might when they create that time, but then they don't know what to do. It's like they might just put me time, but they
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:don't know. So it sounds like you would put meditation or tapping or even walking, like whatever it is, you put
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yep.
Samantha Hawley (:what you're going to do down.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yes, 100%. If you're not to your point, then you're just gonna be like, my gosh, I gotta switch over the laundry before my next meeting. Right?
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Like you really have to, you being the proverbial you, you have to get clear if you're gonna time block you time, what does that look like?
because then what I call our ego thinking mind that eases our greatness out is just gonna find all the different things to do, right?
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:That has nothing to do with our best selves. It's just tangible, menial stuff.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah. I used to love time blocking. And then I realized that it made me feel pretty constricted. And I almost was rebelling against it. was like, I'm not going to do that now. I'm going to do something else. And so what I found worked for me is I would still time block because there's, I think, research on why it's so beneficial.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Sure.
Samantha Hawley (:in me time, I use Google Calendar. So in me time, in the description,
I would put options of like, these are the things that I can do that all made me feel good. And it was things that would like help me tap into my higher self. And some of the things were even just like going for a walk or like picking apples next door to where my parents live on their apple tree. Cause you know, that's like, I think a form of meditation or meditating, reading a book. And that way I could choose based on what I was feeling. Like that sounds good. So that I didn't quickly.
do the laundry or dishes, which yeah, it's just so easy to do when you work from home.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:100%. You give yourself like it's a reminder because we get so stuck in all of like, it's like we have our blinders on right? And so we forget, especially as women, business owners and moms, primary, most
are primary caregivers. Some are and that's okay. But as with all of those things, it's like we forget the things that bring us joy.
believe it or not. And so for you to say, here's a series, one, two, three, four, five, series of things that I could do in my me time. I recently, because I love that you're bringing this up, this has been a huge, huge disconnect for a lot of my entrepreneurs. So what I recently just did was I created, it's launching like any day now, I created, I wrote.
a guided gratitude journal. It's called the gratitude within. And I recorded a series of mini meditations. And I created a very specific intention statement. And so it's going to be this cute little like package that says,
Samantha Hawley (:Love it.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Hi, it's called Aligned at First Light. And something that any entrepreneur, male, female doesn't matter. You know, just this low ticket thing, you want to know what to do in your meantime?
Here's what you do. Here's a gratitude journal, one page, prompts, different questions every day to get you thinking and tapping into that best version of you, remembering, know, obviously you and I both know the importance and the science behind tapping into the grateful mind, but also all the great things about you and those around you. And then two to six minute mini meditations.
that just help us stay grounded and safe and calm and peaceful and energized and successful. So here, you don't know what to do? I'm gonna create something for you.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah, I love it.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah!
Samantha Hawley (:I think so many entrepreneurs do personal development, whether they read it, listen to it, talk to friends about it, whatever. But I think what we're talking about is that inner work. It's like taking what you listen to and applying it to yourself. Because you can do personal development
all day long, but if you've lost your joy, if you can't connect to your higher self, if you aren't doing the next step of identifying your limiting beliefs, you can only go so far. And that's the point
Jenna D'Annunzio (:100 %
Samantha Hawley (:that you're going to stay stuck. And so I love that these are the tools that you have for yourself and your clients.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:100%. I mean, we only hold science shows, we only hold five things in our short-term memory. Five. I mean, think about all the things that we do every day.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:My goodness, times that by literally like a million. That's
Samantha Hawley (:Haha
Jenna D'Annunzio (:a slight exaggeration, but the point is we
can listen to podcasts, we can read all of the personal development books and
Quotes and you know, I have even have like the little calendars and things like that, know They have positive affirmations on it. And yes, all of that is amazing And I'm not saying don't do those things. But what I am saying is in real time If we don't have the tools to be able to Regulate our nervous system when it becomes dysregulated if we are still lacking
awareness, self-awareness, social awareness, on how we're showing up and how we're thinking and the behaviors and the beliefs that we're subconsciously energizing, all that stuff really unfortunately doesn't matter.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah. So let's tap into what you said of in real time. So in real
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:time, when someone is, let's not even call it limiting belief, because that seems really big sometimes. Let's call it worry or fear or doubt. Doubt is a big one, right? So when someone starts feeling these things and they don't want to apply for the thing or go or start the side business or, you know, go for whatever it is,
How do they overcome it in real time?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:So one of the most tangible ways that I practice, that I empower all my clients to practice is EFT tapping, which is emotional freedom technique. You shared earlier, a lot of us know when we're in that space. We have sense of self-awareness, but we stay there.
We stay there and we have all sorts of excuses. it's just in my DNA. that's just how I'm wired, right? All of that is BS, which is a belief system. All of that is a belief system. If
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:I believe that I'm just wired that way, then I will continue to energize that doubt, that worry.
In real time, if I'm like, wow, okay, like I'm really nervous to embark on this opportunity. I'm really nervous to get on stage. I'm really nervous to whatever. It doesn't matter, right? I just start, I go through a series of tapping. first have, it's first identifying on a scale from one to 10, rating.
the
level of intensity of that feeling, right? So give me a hypothetical situation.
Samantha Hawley (:like if you were going on stage.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Okay, so this is great because I do this before I go on stage any stage ever as I do a tapping session for myself. I am not a natural, believe it or not, public speaker. Many think that I gravitate towards the stage because I I appear gregarious and extroverted. Yes, I am gregarious. Yes, I'm extroverted. And yes, I'm still very
nervous to get on stage in front of people. Because, right? I feel like I'm not good enough, or I don't belong, all those things. So
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:what I do is I rate the intensity of that nervousness. So let's say I'm at a seven or an eight out of 10. And I just calmly start to tap, there's a series of cheese, Chinese meta traditional Chinese medicine, right, our life force energy.
And I slowly start to tap. And I just say to myself, what I call this is power statement. And the power statement said, despite my nervousness to go on stage, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself. And I go through, you know, the crown of my head, despite the anxiety I am feeling about going on stage, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself. And I go through
And after I've said my power statement two or three times, I will say, am okay. I'm okay. And I switch up my tone and I switch up the volume of which I say it. So it's not always like, I'm okay. But it's, I'm all right. I'm good. I'm safe. And it's almost like I'm giving my nervous system the friendly reminder.
I love you. I accept you even when you're nervous.
You're really okay, you are safe. And then you're be amazing. You can do this, right? Despite this nervousness, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself. And I go through the patterns of the tapping session. Once I've gone through those, I then re-rate that intensity.
And I can confidently say, myself included, I've never had anyone who I've taught tapping to tell me that they did not have the intensity level decrease, at least by two.
Samantha Hawley (:I love that.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:They
always feel better, always feel more a sense of calm.
Samantha Hawley (:Hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Right? Because this is acupressure. And each space that you're tapping, scientifically has been proven has a bundle of nerves at this space. So when you apply pressure to it, what
it does is it helps to lower the cortisol levels that are circulating, that fear, doubt, and worry. Love to run rampant, right?
and then lowers your heart rate. A lot of us, when we start to get anxious, our heart starts to speed up.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:So it lowers heart rates and then it also lowers our blood pressure.
Samantha Hawley (:So extra
Jenna D'Annunzio (:So.
Samantha Hawley (:helpful when you're nervous and your heart's pumping.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah, but you know what though, honestly, mean, this is even applicable for like physical discomfort. Because we get in our head like, oh my gosh, I just rolled my ankle, then you get mad and frustrated and it hurts and it's just like, okay, I'm okay.
Samantha Hawley (:You
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Despite rolling my ankle, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:And I do this with my kids almost every night before bed.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah, I love, mean, circling back to that, it's just so amazing that once you, I think a lot of people, again, do the personal development work and then almost stop right before they do this work, like the real inner work, because
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:it takes time and they think that it takes a ton of time. Like what you just described literally sounds like it takes a minute or less even. But once you do spend the time doing this type of work,
that's actually truly transformative. If you don't even do it for yourself, do it for your kids, because then you can teach it to your kids. Do it for your spouse if you have one, right? Like it ripples into everyone in your life. And I see that firsthand. I'm sure you see that firsthand as well. And that's like for me, the most incredible thing to see is someone comes in wanting to work on themselves and they don't even realize that they're also helping every other person in their life.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Well, it's a ripple effect, right? That's essentially why I do what I do is for the generations to come. It's for the generations to come, giving them the tools. The more that I can do it, and yes, I work with entrepreneurs and leaders, but when you think about it, they're such incredible difference makers, but their business and their leadership is not separate from them. It's an extension. Your business is no different.
It's not different than who you are. It's an extension of you. And so are your kids. And so are your clients and their kids. So if I can teach my children how to regulate their emotions, think about what the world is going to look like when everybody has a tool to be able to regulate from the get go. Because you and I,
I don't know much about your childhood, but did you have those tools?
Samantha Hawley (:No.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah, I mean, I know our boomer parents didn't have those tools and it's not their
Samantha Hawley (:Right.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:fault. It's not our great grandparents fault. We didn't know what they were. Right, mental health, our mindset, women's health wasn't a thing.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:And now it is. so now we have those tools and what are we doing with them? Are we implementing them? Yes, please. Yes, please.
Samantha Hawley (:I
love it. So before we wrap up, did want to, I just feel like you're a wealth of knowledge. And so I want to ask you about energy and
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yes.
Samantha Hawley (:the different types of energy. I hear a lot of people talking about like masculine and feminine. So I guess what are the different types of energies from in your perspective that you talk about and teach about and how do they show up either in life or in like
a business arena in your career.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:wow.
That's big question. Okay, so
Samantha Hawley (:Ha ha!
Jenna D'Annunzio (:yes, masculine and feminine energy. What I will, I always preface by saying, it has nothing to do with gender roles. Absolutely nothing. Each person on this planet has masculine and feminine energy. And so what happens is subconsciously, we're all meaning one way or the other in any given moment and every given day.
So the masculine energy is more of the doing.
And the feminine energy is more of the being side of things. So when I discuss with my entrepreneurs, for example, most entrepreneurs lead within the masculine energy. It is the logistical, analyzing, executing to-do lists, right? How many of us, you were just saying, moms, we have a million to-do lists. That is
That is a mom energizing the masculine energy, checking off those boxes. They're very task oriented. Whereas when we energize the feminine energy, we're living more into that collective collaborative sense of being. It is the more nurturing feeling sense of saying, so, and What I do is I help folks integrate
the both and. So it's not either I'm doing my to do list, or I'm slowing down to speed up and meditating. It's integrating the being the meditating into my to do list, so that I'm able to find a harmony within the masculine and feminine energy.
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Many of my very successful female business owners and leaders, they energize the masculine energy first.
Why? Because that's what got them into that space of success and leadership.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:It's that direct, a little bit more hard sales, the hard skills, right? And don't get
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:me wrong, we need those, like don't stop doing them, please. But also recognize the criticality of the soft skills, right? It's the listening, the sitting back and listening instead of always feeling like you have to speak.
Right? Or always feeling like you have to prove yourself. Well, then I don't have to prove. I'm good. I'm just going to provide some value. I'm going to sit back. I'm going to listen, not just hear what people are saying. I'm going to listen. And I'm just going to be. And many of us don't do that, especially within our business, because we're thought that, we have to energize the, that we have to track everything. We have to analyze. We have to be really logical or everything's going to fail.
And so I don't want, what I do is I don't take away, but I add to, to find that a place of coherence, so to speak.
Samantha Hawley (:Yeah, that was a great way to describe it. And I agree, I think that I started off very masculine. And I think, like you said, a lot of women do. That's what we were shown, right? That's what we have looked up to. I mean, I went to business school and that's a lot of the teachers even were men. And then when I
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:got my, started off in the corporate world and a lot of my bosses were men. And it's like, you had to survive. And so I think...
validating in what you said of that's how we, it was safe, right? And so we, that's how we got there. And so I think keep doing that and integrating the other things. And even all the tools you mentioned earlier can
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yeah.
Samantha Hawley (:help you become softer and more feminine. And I think I'm sure you have seen too, when you do integrate both, that's not only when you feel more calmer,
when you meditate, that's one goal, but that's also when you can attract more success, easier success, like right now hustling as hard and you still succeed.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Yes, you're not grinding. When we are integrating and find harmony between our masculine and our feminine energy, it is such a sense of flow. It's beautiful. Honestly, I don't have another word for it. It's just a flow that, again, when you look at like coherence and integration, it's when the waves are in sync.
It's like a river that's flowing down the stream, right? When you have the both and, they're flowing. But when waves are crashing up against each other, there's turbulence, right? It's a constant battle of the power and you feel out of alignment. Like when you were coming up in business school and in corporate, you were basically indirectly told that you had to lead with that masculine energy in order to see the success that you wanted. But
Nine times out of ten, did you feel in alignment with your true self?
Samantha Hawley (:I don't think so. I was just in the grind.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:mean, right? Well, that's it, right?
Like you're so out of alignment, you don't know how to show up every other day is something different. And
Samantha Hawley (:Mm-hmm.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:it's just it becomes overwhelming. There's, you know, burnout looks differently. Burnout in the masculine energy even looks different than the feminine energy burnout in the masculine energy is projecting. projecting all your stuff onto everybody and anybody in your life.
First, within the feminine energy, it's more like ruminating or like low key manipulating situations, because you feel so out of control.
Samantha Hawley (:Interesting.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:So there's so many different ways, both positive and negative, that it shows up. So we want to have that directness. We want to analyze. But we want to do it from a place of being and nurturing and collaboration and slowing down to speed up.
Samantha Hawley (:I think there is such a fear that for women that if I rest, then I won't want to start back up again. If I rest, I'm going to tap into this feminine, then I'm going to be too flowy. It's like one or the other. So I love that you said there is a way, it is possible to integrate and that
just flowing in, that is the goal and that it is possible.
So amazing,
Jenna D'Annunzio (:You have.
Samantha Hawley (:so many incredible tools. If people want to find you and learn more about what you do and work with you, where can they find you?
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Well, I'm on all the social medias, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram. My website is soulpurposeinstitute.com. So we can always go there and even I think right from there, you can even just schedule a quick conversation if that's something that people are interested in. I have a lot of really fun projects going on at events, local events in Rochester, if people are local coming up. So just shoot me a message. I'd love to chat.
Samantha Hawley (:Amazing. Yeah, and you've been very open about sharing what you're working on, at least some of the projects on Instagram. It has been so fun following you and seeing what's in the works.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:thank you.
Samantha Hawley (:So you're doing amazing. Thank you so much for being on the show. And everyone, thank you for listening.
Jenna D'Annunzio (:Bye bye.
